Pastor Pankow's Past Sermons
End of Year B - Fall of 2006
Pentecost 15 - Deuteronomy 4:1-8 - Keep the Commands of the LORD!  This was a difficult nut to evangelically chew in my mind - taking an encouragement from Moses to the Israelites on their journey into the Promised Land.  Moses was motivating the Israelites not to dismiss God and His law on their entry into the Promised Land.  In keeping with the context of the text, I tried to apply this to Christians in today's world.
Pentecost 18 - Jeremiah 11:18-20 - This sermon contains a prayer of Jeremiah to get vengeance on those who sought his life.  Such a prayer sounds contradictory to what Jesus preached and practiced from the cross.  When and why should such a prayer be prayed - if at all?  Read here to find out.
Pentecost 19 - Numbers 11:16, 24-29 - Moses seemed to have his own "followers" - those who looked up to him as their spiritual father and leader.  Joshua was one of them.  It is good to have Christian mentors, yet that doesn't mean that other Christians can have talents or gifts also.  In this text Moses rejoices at the generous spreading of the Holy Spirit to the 70 elders of Israel.
Pentecost 20 - Mark 10:2-12 - Jesus was asked a question on when divorce is permissible.  This question approaches marriage from a completely wrong approach.  Jesus gets back to the institution of marriage - what it's all about - which pretty much eliminates the very concept of divorce.
Pentecost 21 - James 5:1-6 - In this text James lays the law down on some greedy landowners who were not paying their workers and condemning the righteous in court.  The main theme is "weep and wail."  Definitely a law text, giving us much to consider in our priorities in life.
Reformation Sunday - Mark 16:16 - Some people think of the Reformation as only about a protest against indulgences and the Pope.  There was a deeper concern in Luther's 95 Theses - which is met and answered in Mark 16:16 - which shows what the Roots of the Reformation are.
Last Judgment  Sunday - Malachi 4:1-2 - Malachi was called by God to confront the sassy Israelites and  warn them of the future judgment.  This is a warning for all of us who will not revere His name.
Saints Triumphant Sunday - Daniel 12:1-3 - Daniel spoke of what would happen "at that time" in reference to the Last Days.  These verses offer comfort in the midst of terror at contemplating what will happen at the end of time.  Don't miss the warnings and comforts of this wonderful text!
Thanksgiving - Psalm 67:1-3 The Psalmist's prayer reminds us of what we have to be thankful for, and then gives us reason to give thanks, as he repeats the them, "may the people praise you, O Lord."
Christ the King - Daniel 7:13-14 Daniel reveals His vision of the King - in what his origins and destiny would be.
