| Pastor Pankow's Past Sermons |
| Advent 1 - Genesis 3:15 - This sermon is on the first prophecy of Christ - reflecting the first candle lit during Advent - the Prophecy Candle. It speaks of the prophecy of Enmity - which seems strange when we think of Christmas as a time of peace. Advent 3 - Luke 2:8-20 - The shepherds were shown the light of the Christ through the announcement of the angels. This sermon focuses on the second candle - the Shepherds Candle - and sheds some light on preparing for Christmas by looking at the shepherds. Advent 4 - December 24, 2006 - This sermon focuses on the Angel's candle. It looks at the role of the angels in the Christmas story - in preparation for the coming of Christ. Christmas Day - Hebrews 1:1-9 - The writer to the Hebrews begins his letter by magnifying Jesus - talking about the fact that Jesus had the actions and the approval of God. This proves to us that the baby in the Manger is the true God and the Savior of the world. Epiphany - Matthew 2:1-12 - The Magi clearly knew that the Messiah had been born and they came to worship him. This is the Gentile Christmas. It shows us the miracle of faith and how God's light shines in strange ways. Epiphany 1 - Luke 3:15-22 - The baptism of Christ lets us clearly see that he really is the Christ - according to the testimony of John and God and through the baptism of Christ itself. Epiphany 2 - John 2:1-11 - January 21, 2007 - Jesus' first miracle seems so mundane and normal in some senses. Why didn't He do something more glorious - more flashy? Why turn water into wine? To reveal His glory - which is what Epiphany is all about. Epiphany 3 - Luke 4:14-22 - January 28, 2007 - Jesus' arrived on the preaching circuits of Galilee with an amazingly refreshing message - a message of love and forgiveness in the Gospel. In a world of laws and judgment - it was His words that stood out and shone as something special. Epiphany 4 - Luke 4:22-30 - February 4, 2007 - Jesus arrived back home on a roll with people saying great things about him. Yet the people of his hometown just couldn't believe that their little Jesus could be a great prophet. Jesus gave them warnings from widows in an effort to bring them to the light. Epiphany 5 - Luke 5:1-11 - February 11, 2007 - Jesus decided to let his light shine to his future disciples through a miraculous catch of fish. The very order to throw the net back in the lake seemed absolutely ridiculous to Peter. Yet in a weak faith they threw the net in - and were strengthened in their faith through the process. This shows us the blessings of acting in faith - listening to the promises of our Lord in the Word. It enables us to be witnesses also. Transfiguration Sunday - Luke 9:28-36 - February 18, 2007 - Jesus gave the inner three a beautiful vision of who He was as He talked with Elijah and Moses. It was a sight that Peter wanted to cherish forever. This vision of beauty also reflects the dull nature of the human in Peter's response. |
