Pastor Pankow's Past Sermons
Pentecost Sunday - John 15:26-16:4 - The wonderful miracle of Pentecost had a single minded focus - to proclaim Christ.  This is an ability the Holy Spirit gives all of us especially in times of persecution.
Trinity Sunday - John 16:12-25 - June 3, 2007 - In preparation for the cross Jesus told the disciples He would leave them to go to the Father and then return.  They did not understand.  So Jesus promised them that He would send the Holy Spirit who would guide them into the truth.  This text illustrates how our Triune God works within Himself with a sole focus of bringing us to salvation in Christ.  What a wonderfully gracious God we have!
Pentecost 2 - Galatians 1:4-10 - June 10, 2007 - There is only one Gospel and only one way to salvation.  It is through faith in the blood and righteousness of Christ.  Any additions to this righteousness is a "perversion" and "desertion" from the Gospel of Christ.  Love for the world means proclaiming Christ alone.
Pentecost 3 - Galatians 1:11-24 - June 17, 2007 - Another attack that the devil pitted against the Gospel was to question Paul's authenticity - questioning whether he was a legitimate apostle.  In defending himself Paul pointed to the grace of God even from his mother's womb, but the crux of the matter went back to the fact that he preached the faith.
Pentecost 4 - Galatians 2:11-21 - June 24, 2007 - As we continue to look at the book of Galatians, we once again see Paul defend the Gospel against a seemingly  innocent meal choice of Peter's in Antioch.  In doing so, he reminds Peter of who he is so that he can act in line with the power of the Gospel.  It is good for all of us to remember who we are so we don't give in to fear.
Pentecost 5 - Galatians 3:26-29 - July 1, 2007 - In order to overcome their feelings of inferiority due to the fact that they weren't obeying the Old Testament Law, Paul wonderfully laid out the promises of the Gospel - promises that we are sons of God who wear the clothing of Christ through baptism.  It still works to overcome these same feelings that the law brings about still today.  (click here to listen to the sermon)
Pentecost 6 - Galatians 5:13-25 - July 8, 2007 - As we continue looking at Paul's letter to the Galatians, we see him take the next step - answering the question as to how we live after our baptism and the gift of faith.  (click here to listen to the sermon)
Walking Together and Debt Retirement Celebration - 1 Chronicles 29:10-20 - July 15, 2007 - This special Sunday reviews David's prayer at the completion of the temple.  How do we respond to this unique situation in the history of our congregation in light of God's Word?  Fear or faith at God's blessings? (click here to listen to the sermon)
Pentecost 7 - Galatians 6 - July 22, 2007 - This final sermon on Galatians concludes Paul's epistle of freedom by talking about how to defend freedom in a group effort as Christians.  (audio)
Pentecost 12 - Hebrews 11:8-10, 13-16 - August 19, 2007 - Abraham lived his life on earth as a stranger on the way to the Promised Land.  Even the physical "Promised Land" was not his - but for his descendants.  What faith he had to go hundreds of miles and live among strangers in a tent at the age of 75.  Where did the faith come from?  The sermon addresses this.  (audio)
Pentecost 13 - Psalm 139 - August 26, 2007 - This Psalm of David reflects on the attributes of God and the hand of influence He has on our earthly lives.  At the end David prays a very bold prayer in light of who God is.  May a reflection on this Psalm lead you to pray likewise.  (audio)
Esther Chapter 1 - September 2, 2007 - This sermon begins a sermon series on the book of Esther.  It examines the initial relationship between King Xerxes of Persia and his wife Vashti with applications throughout. (audio - quality not quite as good)
Esther - Chapter 2 - September 9, 2007 - This sermon carries the story of Esther further as Esther has to go through a beauty contest to try and win the favor of King Xerxes.  Once again the sermon follows like a running commentary reflecting on the first 19 verses chapter two.  (audio)
Esther - Chapter 3 - September 16, 2007 - Mordecai was an influential person behind Esther's upbringing and was influential in keeping her background a secret.  Yet he was the one who seemed to be proud of his lineage - so proud that it may have been why he and the Jews ended up in trouble under Haman.  Learn some lessons on pride from Mordecai.  (audio)
Esther - Chapter 4 - September 23, 2007 - The future of the Jews living in Media and Persia was bleak.  How would Esther respond?  Would she hide in a shell or step up to the plate?  Dangerous as it was, she needed to risk her life to try and save her people.  (audio)
Esther - Chapters 6-7 - September 30, 2007 - Haman had everything going for him and lost it within a course of 24 hours.  It is amazing how quickly the LORD can change things in life.  Esther had an essential role in this.  (audio)
Esther - Chapters 8-10 - October 7, 2007 - With the death of Haman the Jews were still not out of the water yet.  They needed a way out of the edict which Haman had written.  The LORD grants the Jews deliverance through the new edict which is written.  (audio)
